The N.C. Legislature has wrapped up its annual session, after passing a $21.4 billion budget. How did legislators decide to spend your tax dollars? What lies ahead for lawmakers at the polls this fall and what awaits them when the new session launches next year?

As featured in this edition of The Voter Update, this ad from Richard Nixon's 1968 presidential campaign plays upon the growing anxiety felt by Americans that the Vietnam War -- presided over by a Democratic administration -- had no end in sight.

Nixon went on to defeat incumbent Vice President Hubert Humphrey in a close contest that ushered in an era of Republican dominance of the White House, with the GOP taking six of the next nine presidential elections.
